🌱 Exciting Announcement: Carbon Hack 24 - The Green Software Foundation Hackathon Begins March 18th! 🌍

We are on the brink of a pivotal moment in software development, where understanding and mitigating our ecological footprint becomes imperative. This year’s focus at Green Software Foundation Carbon Hack 24 is the Impact Framework (IF), a trailblazing open-source project that offers a comprehensive method to assess the environmental impact of software. From carbon emissions to water and land usage, we delve into the significant aspects of software’s environmental impact.

🤝As co-chair of the Impact Framework project, together with Srinivasan Rakhunathan and Asim Hussain, our enthusiasm for the foundation of the IF is boundless. The Impact Framework heralds a new era in green software, building upon years of collective intelligence and leveraging essential resources such as SCI Open Data, SCI Open Ontology, the SCI Guide, and a plethora of practical use cases. This rich amalgamation of knowledge and tools pioneers a novel approach to green software development, marking a transition from manually calculating the SCI score to employing the comprehensive capabilities of the Impact Framework.

This hackathon is more than a competition; it’s a collaborative quest to unearth sustainable solutions that can guide us toward a more responsible use of technology. I am eagerly looking forward to the diverse array of innovative measures our community will develop, specifically targeting the unique measurement challenges and opportunities presented by AI and Generative AI technologies.

📅 The Green Software Foundation’s Impact Engine Framework Hackathon kicks off on March 18th, marking the beginning of a three-week challenge for engineers, designers, and content creators to pioneer sustainable software solutions.
