I am thrilled to announce that the Software Carbon Intensity (SCI) from the Green Software Foundation has now been recognized as an ISO standard. As an active contributor and co-chair of the Standards Working Group, alongside Henry Richardson and Abhishek Gupta, we embarked on this collaborative journey with GSF members back in June 2021.

I vividly recall my early discussions with Asim Hussain and Sanjay Podder about creating the first actionable specification for measuring software carbon emissions. It's great to see that the first version of SCI has now achieved ISO standard status.

I'd like to acknowledge our open operating model, which is remarkably transparent. The agenda setting, commitments to specifications, and discussions happen through member consensus and are readily available on GitHub. A special thanks to Sean Mcilroy for managing this effectively.

Moreover, SCI has been made actionable through various use cases by our member organizations, including UBS, NTT Data, Intesa, Accenture, Microsoft, Aveva, CAST, and others, with more in the pipeline. With SCI now recognized as an ISO standard, I hope we will see increased adoption and that it will become an integral part of developers' toolkits for measuring and reducing software carbon emissions.

Software sustainability is a shared responsibility. With the Green Software Foundation (GSF) and the collective intelligence of our member organizations, we have made significant advancements. This achievement showcases the true power of open communities; working towards shared goals and outcomes can indeed yield remarkable results.
